There are many fairs and festivals celebrated with great zest in Indore that reflect the rich culture and history of this historic city. The fairs and festivals are also popular attractions of Indore attracting thousands of people every year. Although with growing influence of westernization some events like Valentine's Day, Friendship Day and New Year's Eve are celebrated in full fledged way, Indore has not forgotten its traditional values. There are still all the traditional festivals celebrated with the same enthusiasm as in the other parts of Madhya Pradesh as well as India. The major festivals for which Indore is widely famous include -
Rangapanchami: It is the festival of colors, celebrated five days after Holi. Colors of this festival are not like colors of Holi that completely paint the atmosphere, these are in fact the colors of music that fills the air with exciting traditional music.
Ahilya Utsav: This is also one of the most important annual festivals, which is celebrated with so much excitement and enthusiasm in Indore for commemorating the death anniversary of the erstwhile Rani Ahilya Bai, who was the brave queen of Indore.
Anant Chaudas: It is the most important religious festival, celebrated with lots of revelry, excitement and enthusiasm in the month of September. On the night of Anant Chaudas, large colorful promenades are taken out and huge idols of Lord Ganesha are respectfully immersed in water.
Navratri: Navratri is a very special festival in Indore. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the moth of September or October in temple of Bijasen Mata, where a fair is also organized that attracts large number of pilgrims.
The other important national festivals celebrated in the city of Indore include - Diwali, Holi, Eid-ul-Fitr, Rakhi, Ganesh Chaturthi and Makar Sankranti.
