| Indore is one of the best cities in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh and has got a rich history that effectively moves around Mughals, Marathas and the British, who desperately wanted to rule upon central India. The city of Indore is believed to be founded by Rao Nandlal Chaudhary, who was the chief Zamindar (landlord). Rao Nandlal Chaudhary, the founder of Indore lived a luxurious life and had an army of 2000 soldiers. The founder and his family enjoyed great influence under Mughals and were given confirmatory sanads by the Emperors Aurangzeb, Alamgir, and Farukhshayar to confirm their 'Jagir' rights. But in the year of 1713, the Nizam of Hyderabad was appointed as the controller of the Deccan plateau area, which resulted into the renewal of hostilities between the Marathas and the Mughals. So when he found the location to be safe and protected by natural barriers in all aspects on the banks of the river Saraswati during his visit to the Indreshwar temple, he built a fort there and established a city of Indrapur that is now popularly known as Indore. After the establishment of city of Indrapur, Marathas got full power, but soon, they lost the third Battle of Panipath to Ahmad Shah Abdali, and this way, Indore became the part of the Holkar princedom and remained its part till British Rule. Then in 1947, after the Independence of India, Indore became the part of the Indian state of Madhya Bharat that was later named as Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 1956. Today, Indore is not only a major city but also a huge commercial center of Madhya Pradesh in central India. Besides, it has also become one of the best tourist places of India, offering number of amazing tourist attractions to visit and activities to enjoy. |
