Mandu has witnessed a succession of invasions & takeovers from the Mughals to the Marathas. The endless monuments located in this town are evident of the town’s glorious past making it one of the significant historical places of the country. The walls & distinguished architecture of these monuments narrate legendry tales of the bygone era to the visiting tourists.
The monuments in Mandu are basically divided into three main categories:
Village Group: The village group is comprised of monuments including the sacred Jama Masjid, Hoshang’s Tomb – country’s oldest marble structure, Ashrafi Mahal & the Jain Temples.
Royal Enclave Group: This group comprises of ruins of Mandu that are amongst the most frequented attractions. These include monuments like, the ship-shaped Jahaz Mahal, the Swing Palace or Hindola Mahal & the Taveli Mahal housing an antiquity gallery.
Rewa Kund Group: Located south of the Village Group, the Rewa Kund Group consists of the romantic structure – Rupmati’s Pavilion & the Baz Bahadur Palace dedicated to Malwa’s last independent king.
