» Omkareshwar - Popular Getaway from Indore

Omkareshwar Omkareshwar is the most visited getaway from Indore, situated about 12 miles from Mortakka in Madhya Pradesh. It is also one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva, and hence considered the holiest place of center India. Today, with great mythological significance, Omkareshwar has become a popular pilgrimage that attracts thousands of visitors all year round from across the world.
Location: Located 12 miles from Mortakka in Madhya Pradesh at the meeting point of the Narmada and the Kaveri rivers, Omkareshwar is divided north to south by a deep gully in such a way that its shape from above seems to be 'Om', which is the sacred Hindu symbol. It is spread to the southern bank from the island and linked by a new bridge and there is river between that is very deep and full of crocodiles.

Sightseeing: Omkareshwar is blessed with an incredible natural beauty, offering magnificent sightseeing that includes -

Shri Omkar Mandhata - this is the main temple on a mile long and half mile island, housing detailed carving in soap stone.

24 Avataras - this is another very sacred place in Omkareshwar. It is a bunch of Hindu and Jain temples in different architecture modes.

Siddhnath Temple - this is indeed a worth visiting place here as it is a unique example of early medieval Brahminic architecture.

Satmatrika Temples - It is a group of 10th century temples, located just 6 km from Omkareshwar. Kajal Rani Cave - this is a gorgeous spot offering eye-catching views of the broad acres landscape that is spread till the horizon.

How to Reach from Indore: Omkareshwar is 77 Km from the city of Indore. And so, visitors can reach this holy town easily by bus or their private vehicles.

Best Time to Visit - Although, you can visit this holy place all year round, the best time to visit is considered July to March.

Accommodation - Visitors can’t find plush hotels in Omkareshwar and so need to be satisfied with quite basic accommodation. There are many Dharamshalas but they are just for Hindus. Besides, there is Holkar Guest House that is operated by Ahilyabai Charity Trust. This rest house is for all, so all types of visitors can have some rest is this rest house.
